Fortune Favors Florida Again With Another Mega Millions Jackpot Win
Exactly one week after a player from Florida became Mega Millions’ record winner, another ticket holder from the Sunshine State landed a jackpot in the same game.
The grand prize for the drawing on Tuesday, August 15 was worth $36 million, after it had reset to $20 million following the $1.602 billion win on August 8.
Having rolled 31 consecutive times to create the record jackpot, there was just one drawing without a winner on Friday before someone matched all the numbers again.
The numbers drawn on Tuesday were 18, 39, 42, 57 and 63, with a Mega Ball of 7. The Megaplier was 3, and across the participating states there were more than 550,000 prizes paid out altogether. Apart from the jackpot winner, the biggest winner was a player from New Jersey who matched all five main numbers without the Mega Ball to become an instant millionaire.
Remarkable 2023 Continues
The latest Florida winner now has 180 days to come forward and claim their prize. They will be able to take the $36 million jackpot as an annuity, or accept a lump sum of $17.4 million.
Remarkably, it is the third time since the start of the year that back-to-back jackpots have been won in the same state.
Massachusetts was the first state to enjoy a jackpot double, when the Skylark Group Trust won $33 million on January 24 and then the S & L Trust picked up $31 million one week later.
On April 14, Johnnie Taylor of Queens in New York pocketed $483 million, before the jackpot went to the Empire State again in the very next drawing. The $20 million jackpot for April 18 was claimed by the Shadowknight LLC of Syracuse.
Florida has now celebrated an August to remember, crowning its fourth and fifth jackpot winners. Keep an eye on Powerball-MegaMillions.com for more news about the recent winners as it emerges.
In the meantime, you can continue to take part in Mega Millions drawings every Tuesday and Friday night. Powerball, currently offering a jackpot above $200 million, is drawn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday.Published: Wednesday, August 16, 2023
