The winning numbers for the June 27 drawing were 18, 21, 29, 42, and 50, with a Mega Ball of 2. There were 299,889 prizes paid out across the U.S., but only one ticket matched all six numbers to land the jackpot.

It was later revealed that the ticket was purchased at E & C VA, located at 14878 Northumberland Highway in Burgess, VA. The winner has 180 days from the draw date to claim their money, making this lucky winner's claim deadline December 24 2025.

When the winner comes forward, they will need to decide whether to take the full jackpot amount as an annuity over 30 years, or a one-time lump sum payment worth an estimated $155.5 million before taxes.

Virginia has now been the scene of 10 Mega Millions jackpot wins, and a further two Powerball wins. The previous record for the largest win in the state was the $239 million Mega Millions jackpot paid out to J.R. and Peggy Triplett of Winchester in February 2004.

Second Win of New Mega Millions Era

Friday’s result marked the second jackpot win under the $5 Mega Millions format. The game was changed in April to bring fresh excitement and make it more different to Powerball, with the number range tweaked to improve the odds of winning.

It took just four draws from the update for the first win to arrive - a single player from Ohio pocketed $112 million on April 18 - and now someone has hit the jackpot again a couple of months later.

A new multiplier feature was also introduced in April to replace the optional Megaplier. The multiplier is included in every play at no additional cost, so if you win a non-jackpot prize it will always be increased by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times its base amount. Mega Millions bosses have since calculated that around four times as much money has been paid out as there would have been under the old matrix and rules.

The Mega Millions jackpot now resets to $50 million - 2.5 times the size of the previous minimum jackpot of $20 million. Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday night, so don’t forget to grab a ticket. After all, you could be the next big winner!
