The Mega Millions jackpot is slowly following Powerball towards the $1 billion mark. The $1.079 billion Powerball jackpot was already won last week on July 19 by a lucky Californian player. There were over 4 million winners in total, so check your tickets in case you’re one of them. But what about Mega Millions?

On Friday’s draw, July 21, 2023, no one managed to match all six numbers. The winning numbers were 29, 40, 47, 50, 57, and the Mega Ball was 25. The Megaplier was 2x. Although the jackpot was not won, eight players matched five numbers and will take home $1 million each. The winning tickets were sold in Florida (two), North Carolina (two), New Jersey (two), California, and Michigan.

After having rolled over 27 times and with ticket sales continuously growing, the Mega Millions jackpot jumped from $720 million to $820 in the latest draw. Just a few more draws and the grand prize could reach $1 billion again. It wouldn’t be something unordinary as, in the history of Mega Millions, four jackpots were worth over $1 billion.

The biggest jackpot was worth $1.537 and was won by one anonymous player from South Carolina who took the cash option of $877.7 million. Next in line is the $1.348 billion jackpot, won by a single ticket holder from Maine who also went for the cash option, worth $723.5 million. The third place is taken by a jackpot worth $1.337 billion which was won by a duo from Illinois who took the cash option of $780.5 million. Finally, number four in the history of the biggest Mega Millions jackpots is the $1.05 billion grand prize, won by a four-member lottery club from Oakland County in Michigan.

The next Mega Millions winner will also have to decide whether they want to go for annuity or take the cash sum worth $422 million. It seems though that many jackpot winners go for the cash option. Learn how annuity works to understand more about the jackpot payout options. The player will also have to decide if they want to remain anonymous or go public with their big win, if state law does not compel them to reveal their identity.

So what’s next? For a chance of becoming a millionaire (or maybe a billionaire if the jackpot keeps on rolling over), make sure you enter the next Mega Millions draws which happen on Tuesdays and Fridays.
