What is Powerball NJ?

Powerball NJ is a multi-state lottery format in the State of New Jersey.

Players select 5 numbers from 1 to 69 and then a further Powerball from numbers 1 to 26.

Jackpots typically begin at $20 million and the odds of selecting all 5 white balls and the red powerball are 1 in 292 million.

On January 31, 2010, New Jersey became the 42nd State in America to add Powerball to its games roster and announced its first ever New Jersey Powerball winner less than 2 months later.

Powerball is played in 45 states across the country with game draws made 3 times per week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Who operates Powerball NJ?

All the lottery or draw game formats, including Powerball NJ are run by the New Jersey Lottery.

The New Jersey Lottery was formed over 50 years ago in 1970 following a vote in which 81.5% of the public overwhelmingly approved the establishment of a State Lottery.

It went on to sell its first ticket in December 1970 and created New Jersey’s first ever millionaire winner in March 1971. Edward and Kathleen Henry of West Caldwell were presented with their first annuity payment of $50,000.

Since then the New Jersey Lottery has gone on to distribute over $42 billion in prizes, generating revenues for the State amounting to over $28 billion.

Contact details for the New Jersey Lottery are as follows:

New Jersey Lottery, One Lawrence Park Complex, Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey.

In 2016, 72 year-old Pearlie May Smith and her seven children won a huge $429.6m which, at the time, was the largest single jackpot winning ticket ever sold in New Jersey.

They elected to take it as a lump sum of $284 million and used much of the winnings for charitable purposes including donating 10% to the church where Smith served as a pastor and a further $8 million to help underprivileged residents of Trenton, New Jersey.
