$699.8 Million Powerball Prize Hit in CA
A very lucky Powerball player in California will wake up this morning $699.8 million better off, after the single ticket hit the fifth-biggest jackpot in the game's history. The win is also notable for being the first top prize won in the new Monday draw, and the seventh-highest ever American lottery win.
Excitement grew as the jackpot continued to skyrocket, with last-minute ticket sales pushing it higher than earlier estimates to hit $699.8 million ($496 million cash value) as the drawing took place on Monday night.
The winning ticket was sold by Albertsons, located at 730 Quintana Rd. in Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo County. The ticket matched all six numbers in the Monday, October 4 draw - the five white balls 12, 22, 54, 66, and 69, and the red Powerball, 15. Last night's Power Play was 2X.
More than 2.2 million players took home Powerball prizes on Monday, with payouts ranging from $4 up to $2 million. Powerball has nine ways to win, so be sure to check your numbers carefully.
There were six $1 million Match 5 second prize winners in Arizona, Florida, Massachusetts (2), Tennessee, and Virginia. Those tickets matched all five white balls, only missing the Powerball. The TN ticket is actually worth $2 million because the Power Play multiplier was added at the time of purchase.
The Powerball jackpot run that ended last night lasted for a record 41 drawings in a row. The run kicked off after the top prize was previously hit in Florida on June 5, 2021.
Powerball launched its new Monday drawing on August 23, 2021; draws are also held every Wednesday and Saturday. All draws take place at 10:59 pm ET in the Florida Lottery's headquarters in Tallahassee.

The next chance to snag the Powerball jackpot is Saturday, October 9 - the current starting prize of $20 million (cash value $14.2 million) is up for grabs.
