The numbers drawn were 2, 15, 27, 29 and 39, plus a Powerball of 20. The Power Play multiplier was 2X. On a memorable night for lots of lucky ticket holders, a total of 616,154 prizes were paid out.

Two participants - one each from Pennsylvania and Texas - matched five main numbers to win $1 million apiece, but the glory went to Georgia and the player who snapped up almost half a billion dollars. It was later announced that the ticket was sold in Buford.

What Happens Now?

The wait now begins for the winner to claim their money. It may be that they checked their tickets right after the drawing and will come forward quickly, or perhaps they have no idea yet about their newfound wealth.

There is a claim period of 180 days in Georgia, after which the winner will no longer be entitled to their prize and the money will instead be returned to each of the participating states in line with how much they generated during the entire jackpot run.

Assuming the winner does stake their claim in time, they will be able to choose between taking the $478.2 million as an annuity or accepting the lump-sum option of $230.6 million. They may also decide to stay anonymous.

Big Jackpots

It is the biggest jackpot to have been paid out on Powerball since April, when Oregon players Cheng Saephan, Duanpen Saephan and Laiza Chao teamed up to win $1.325 billion. The second-highest win of the year came all the way back on January 1, when a lottery pool from Michigan - The Breakfast Club - picked up $842 million.

The latest win also ranks as the largest in the history of the Georgia Lottery. The Peach State has now been the scene of seven Powerball wins - still nine fewer than the 16 it has had in Mega Millions.

While Powerball will now drop to $20 million for the next drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot stands at $229 million ahead of Friday night.

Between the two multi-state lotteries, you can enter drawings five times a week. Make sure not to miss out on the next chance to take part, and keep up to date with the latest winning numbers on Powerball-MegaMillions.com.
