Mega Millions and Powerball Jackpots Won on Consecutive Days
It proved to be a spectacular weekend for Mega Millions and Powerball players as both jackpots were won, while millions of other ticket holders picked up prizes.
Mega Millions Won in Arizona
There were just four Mega Millions jackpot wins in the whole of 2024, but someone from Arizona has already got off to a perfect start this year after matching all the numbers on Friday, January 17.
The numbers drawn were 8, 10, 37, 54 and 69, with a Mega Ball of 22. The jackpot was worth $113 million, having built quickly since a Californian player won $1.22 billion on December 27.
It is the third Mega Millions jackpot to go to Arizona, and also a record payout for lottery courier Jackpocket. The lucky winner used the service to order their ticket online, and Jackpocket will now help them to claim the nine-figure prize before the 180-day deadline.
Jackpocket is one of several lottery couriers, along with others such as Jackpot.com, that make it much easier and more secure to play games such as Mega Millions and Powerball.
The winner can choose to take the jackpot as an annuity, or accept a lump sum of $50.4 million. They will also have the option to stay anonymous if they do not want to go public.
“We are thrilled that an Arizona Lottery player won the first Mega Millions jackpot of the year and grateful to our network of 3,500+ retailers,” said Alec Thomson, Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery.
Oregon Player Wins $328 Million Powerball Jackpot
Just 24 hours after the big win in Arizona, similar celebrations were seen further up the west coast as a Powerball ticket holder from Oregon landed a jackpot of $328 million.
The jackpot had not previously been won since a New Yorker banked $256 million in early December, and millions of players across the U.S. rushed to take part. More than 734,000 were rewarded with prizes as the numbers 14, 31, 35, 64 and 69, plus Powerball 23, were drawn on Saturday, January 18.
A single ticket matched all the numbers, and it was later revealed that it had been sold in Beaverton, Mesaros, making it Oregon’s seventh Powerball jackpot win. The cash option for Saturday’s jackpot is $146.4 million.
The largest win in Oregon Lottery history came just last April, when Cheng ‘Charlie’ Saephan, Duanpen Saephan and Laiza Chao claimed $1.32 billion.
The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots will now reset to $20 million each. You can play Mega Millions every Tuesday and Friday, while Powerball draws are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
