Three months after it was last won, the Mega Millions jackpot has surged again and now stands as the eighth-biggest in history. It sets up the prospect of a thrilling holiday season, when someone could grab one of the game’s biggest-ever payouts.

A number of players have come close to landing the jackpot in recent draws. There were four ticket holders who matched five main numbers without the Mega Ball on December 10th. One of those, from Florida, won $5 million as they had added the Megaplier. Go to the Numbers page to see all the latest results - you can also view the payouts for each draw.

Tuesday’s result has left the jackpot at an estimated $670 million ahead of the next draw, which happens to be on Friday 13th. It is a date that is synonymous with bad luck, but there have been several Mega Millions jackpots won on Friday 13th in the past.

One of the very biggest - a $1.348 billion jackpot - went to a ticket holder from Maine on Friday 13th, January 2023.

The current jackpot is worth half that figure, but it may not take too much longer to surpass it if nobody can match all the numbers soon. Ticket sales increase at a rapid rate as the value of the top prize grows, so the billion-dollar mark could even be reached before Christmas.

Big Mega Millions Winners

There have already been six payouts of more than $1 billion in the history of Mega Millions, and they have all come since 2018.

Top of the standings is the $1.602 billion jackpot that was claimed by Saltines Holdings, LLC from Florida. The winning ticket was bought at a Publix at 630 Atlantic Boulevard, Neptune Beach.

The most recent 10-figure prize came earlier this year, when a player from New Jersey won $1.13 billion. Remarkably, there have only been two other jackpot wins this year, and it could be that the next one does not happen until 2025. Go to the Winners page to find out all about Mega Millions jackpots.

Powerball, by contrast, has had nine jackpot winners this year. The latest one came on Saturday, December 7th, when a player from New York snapped up $256 million.

You can enjoy Powerball every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, while Mega Millions draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Make sure to grab your tickets now for the chance to become the next big winner.
