Mega Millions Jackpot Won in Illinois
A Mega Millions player in Illinois became an instant multimillionaire last night after a single ticket sold in Crestwood hit the game's $56 million top prize in Tuesday's drawing.
The lucky Mega Millions ticket was sold by the Citgo Gas Station, located at 13830 South Pulaski in Crestwood. It matched all six numbers in the Tuesday, June 8 draw: the white balls 9, 22, 39, 41 and 54, plus the gold Mega Ball 19.
Illinois lottery winners have one year from the draw date to claim their prize before it expires. Jackpot winners are advised to contact the IL Lottery Claims Department at (217) 524-5147.
Lottery winners do not have the option to stay anonymous in Illinois - the Lottery publicizes winner details including name, city of residence and prize value. Winner's addresses and phone numbers are not published. Jackpot winners may be required to take part in a media event where they receive their check.
There are two options for the prize payout. The winner can opt to receive an annual annuity payment of the full advertised jackpot over many years, or choose the cash option - a single lump sum of approximately $38.7 million.
More Mega Millions prizes
Two players in Iowa and West Virginia each have a million reasons to smile this morning after they matched the five white ball numbers last night to score $1,000,000 apiece.
17 ticket-holders are $10,000 better off - they matched four of the white balls and the Mega Ball to win the game's Match 4 third prize. Seven of those tickets are actually worth $30,000 each because the $1 Megaplier option was added, and the 3X Megaplier was selected on Tuesday.
This has been a short Mega Millions jackpot run; a single Pennsylvania ticket scored a $516 million win less than three weeks ago on May 21.
Last night's drawing was the fourth time the Mega Millions jackpot has gone off this year - here's a recap of the previous wins:
- $1.050 billion won by a Michigan group on January 22
- $96 million won by a New York couple on February 16
- $516 million won by a Pennsylvania ticket on May 21 - the prize remains unclaimed
