Powerball Jackpot Lands in Arkansas Again
Arkansas has celebrated its second Powerball win in the space of three months after a ticket holder from the Natural State pocketed $250.8 million in the latest drawing on Monday night.
The lucky player matched the numbers 2, 17, 18, 38 and 62, plus the Powerball of 20, bringing an end to a run of 16 consecutive drawings without a winner. The next-highest winner was someone from Puerto Rico, who matched five numbers and added the Power Play option to snare a prize worth $2 million.
The Power Play multiplier for March 2 was 2X, doubling the payout for thousands of players across the U.S. Go to the Powerball Payouts page to see a summary of all the prizes won.
No more information was disclosed about the jackpot winner immediately after the draw. They now have 180 days to come forward and claim their prize, when they must decide whether they want to take the money as an annuity or a lump sum. The cash sum is worth $118 million, although both options are subject to federal and state taxes.
The winner may decide to go public with their identity, but players in Arkansas can now remain anonymous following a law change in 2021 so it is possible that only a few more details will be revealed if they choose to stay private.
It has been a wonderful few months for Powerball players in Arkansas, after the state also crowned a $1.816 billion winner on Christmas Eve. There had previously been just one jackpot win in Arkansas since 2009, when tickets first went on sale in the state.
The $1.816 billion winner came forward in late January. They had bought their ticket at a convenience store in Cabot and took the one-time cash lump sum of $834.9 million, while they also decided to stay anonymous.
Mega Millions Approaching $500 Million
While the Powerball jackpot will now reset to $20 million for the next draw on Wednesday night, a lot of lottery fans will turn their focus to Mega Millions. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling since the start of December and it is now up to $473 million.
Mega Millions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday night, while Powerball draws are held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Powerball-MegaMillions.com provides the results for both games as soon as they are available, so you can instantly find out whether you are a winner.
