$432 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Ticket Sold in New York
A single Mega Millions ticket sold at a New York pizzeria won the almost half-billion dollar jackpot on Tuesday - now that's a lot of dough!
The winner, whose identity is still unknown, bought the lucky ticket at Pronto Pizza on West 48th Street in New York. The ticket matched all five white balls - 36, 41, 45, 51 and 56 - and the gold Mega Ball, 13, to score the top prize in the September 21 drawing.
The Mega Millions top prize is estimated at $432 million if the ticket-holder chooses to receive it as an annuity with yearly payments, or they may opt for a $315 million single cash lump sum.
New York does not officially allow lottery winners to stay anonymous. However, there have been a few high-profile cases where winners have successfully kept their identities private by claimed the prize via a trust or company instead of revealing their own names.
Tuesday's Mega Millions draw also resulted in some other big prizes across the country. A Connecticut ticket matched the five white balls to score the $1 million second prize.
25 players also won the $10,000 third prize by matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball. Six of the tickets are actually valued at $30,000 because the player purchased the Megaplier option for an extra $1. The Megaplier number drawn on Tuesday was 3X, tripling the prizes.
The September 21 draw produced 1,065,466 winning tickets in total, plus the jackpot winner in Manhattan.
The Mega Millions top prize has been rolling since it was last hit in Crestwood, Illinois on June 8 - that win is still unclaimed. Over the 30 drawings of this run, there were more than 17.2 million winners, with 30 tickets scoring the Match 5 prize of $1 million or above.
Tuesday's Mega Millions win is the second in New York this year, after a couple in Oneida County scored a $96 million prize on February 16. The game's other top prizes won so far in 2021 are:
- $516 million in Pennsylvania on May 21
- $55 million in Illinois on June 8
- $1.05 billion in Michigan on January 22 - the second-largest prize in the game's history
The next chance to win the Mega Millions jackpot is Friday, September 24. The top prize has reset to its current starting value of $20 million ($14.5 million cash option).
Meanwhile, Saturday's Powerball jackpot has rolled past the half-billion mark to an awesome $523 million! Get your tickets for both games now.
