Powerball Jackpot Exceeds Half a Billion Dollars
The Powerball jackpot continues to grow faster than ever before, with the upcoming jackpot amount predicted at $516 million, or a lump sum cash value of $212.6 million.
The most recent drawing took place on October 7, and produced no winners. Nobody won the jackpot, nor did anybody win the Match 5. There were eleven winners of the third-tier prize Match 4 + Powerball — three of which won $100,000 with Power Play — and many winners of smaller prizes.
But the big ones remain unclaimed. The jackpot was standing at $484.8 million for this drawing and will now climb to the staggering $516 million, leaving lottery fans increasingly excited.
The Ever-Inflating Jackpot
Powerball has offered one of the biggest prizes in United States lotteries for many years, alongside its sister game, Mega Millions. But the size has been growing faster than ever before recently, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, the United Kingdom joined the game in July of 2026. When the UK addition was in the works, it was predicted to boost the jackpot by 15-20%. This seems to be true, given the rapid rate. Powerball works slightly differently in the UK, but the added influx of players contributes to the overall Powerball prize pool.
Secondly, Mega Millions has had a lower prize pool lately. Lottery players tend to go for the game with the highest jackpot, and when Powerball offers a bigger top prize than Mega Millions, players will generally go for Powerball.
Regardless of the cause, Powerball now offers greater prizes than before. To put this in perspective, just take a look at the quantity of billion-dollar jackpots over the years. There were none in 2017, 2019 or 2020. However, one was won in 2018, and one in 2021. 2022 saw two billion-dollar jackpot victories (one in Powerball, one in Mega Millions), and 2023 saw four. There were three in 2024 (2x Mega Millions, 1x Powerball), two in 2025 and one in 2026 (so far). The pattern is real and proves the capacity for fast-raising jackpots.
The Last Powerball Jackpot Victory
The last time the Powerball jackpot was won was back in August when an Illinois ticket holder won a grand prize exceeding a billion dollars. The drawing unveiled numbers 4, 26, 66, 67, 69, and the red Powerball 9. The winner claimed the prize anonymously a few weeks later, and told lottery officials of the “overwhelming elation” they experienced upon discovering they had won.
